An essential, the sailor jumper is the piece that has made SAINT JAMES renowned. The authentic Matelot model is crafted in our workshops in Normandy, in Saint-James. It embodies the traditional elements of the sailor jumper that accompanied sailors to Newfoundland: a very tight knit, making it almost waterproof, a buttoning on the left shoulder for easy donning and keeping the neck warm, a length allowing to protect the back when bending over, and a composition of 100% untreated virgin wool.
Available in a striped version, it draws inspiration from our traditional sailor striped  shirts. A model with a bold maritime look, to be adapted and diversified into urban or fashionable versions. - 1x1 rib knit

To take care of your wool garments, here are a few recommendations:

Wash your garments only when necessary. Wool is naturally self-cleaning — often, simply airing it out is enough. Over-washing can damage the fibres and lead to premature wear.

When washing your wool garment, make sure to:
- Use a gentle or wool-specific detergent
- Avoid fabric softener
- Set your machine to a maximum of 30°C (20°C ideally), but never cold — wet wool felts more easily
- Use a low spin cycle: 400–600 rpm
- Avoid tumble-drying
- Dry flat, in a temperate, well-ventilated area
- Never soak the garmentA simple steam refresh is often enough for wool. If you do choose to iron it, select the wool setting and use a damp pressing cloth between the iron and the garment.
