What style and cut of women’s trousers for your body shape?

Whatever your silhouette, there are one or more suitable trouser cuts that will flatter you. Furthermore, choosing the right cut is not just an aesthetic matter: it is also about being comfortable. Days are long, and trousers that are too tight at the waist or that you have to constantly readjust risk leaving you with unpleasant memories. To find the right model, it is recommended to take your body shape into account.

You have a defined waist

If your waist is narrow and defined, high-waisted trousers will highlight it, although low-rise models are also suitable. As for the cut, you can safely opt for women's chino, cigarette or slim trousers, as well as carrot trousers or a jumpsuit, preferably fitted.

Are you quite petite? Favour long trousers rather than 7/8th or cropped trousers, which risk compressing your silhouette. You can give the illusion of longer legs by wearing heels and/or a short women's jacket. If you wish to wear 7/8th trousers, choose a bootcut style, which is slightly flared.

You have wide hips

It is preferable to opt for women's trousers with a mid-rise waist, neither high nor low, sitting just below the navel. Both high and low waists tend to emphasise your hips more.

Straight-leg trousers, or those fitted at the thighs and flared at the calves, are perfectly suited to your body shape. You can pair them with a fitted women's shirt to highlight your waist.

You have an athletic silhouette

If you have an athletic silhouette, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist and hips, you can add volume to the lower half of your body by opting for low-rise trousers, or by choosing a fluid and flared cut with a thin belt to highlight your waist.

In your case, high-waisted women's trousers are not the best choice. You can opt for slim-fit trousers, and should not hesitate to wear them with a pair of heels to feminise your outfit.

You have a full figure

With an undefined waist, straight trousers, chinos and cigarette cuts are perfect, especially if you opt for a high or mid-rise waist, just below the navel.

Long trousers are preferable to cropped or 7/8th trousers, and women's trousers that flare at the bottom are not the most suitable. Ultimately, the trousers that suit you best are, above all, the ones you like and in which you feel good. These few indications should not, therefore, turn you away from your own preferences!

How to wear women’s shorts?

Long associated with sport or holidays, shorts have now reached the city and, depending on the pieces they are paired with, can certainly create an elegant or casual-chic style. Women's shorts allow for associations as surprising as they are delightful, and can be worn just as well in summer with sandals as in winter with a pair of tights and ankle boots. When shorts are quite loose and not too fitted at the thighs, they give the illusion of a slimmer leg.

For a relaxed outfit inspired by nautical fashion, you can wear your shorts with a women's Breton shirt or a Breton stripe T-shirt, partially or fully tucked in for a more modern and urban style. Certain shorts, when worn with a pair of court shoes or high-heeled sandals, pair very well with a tailored jacket of the same colour. They can also be combined with a fluid women's T-shirt and a blazer, or even, during autumn and winter, with a fine-knit, close-fitting jumper.

Culottes are an interesting variant, halfway between Bermuda shorts and a skirt. They can be used to compose a classic look when worn with a fitted jumper, a shirt or a blouse. But it is also possible to wear them with a pair of brogues and a leather jacket for an alternative, vintage and "rock" style. In all cases, women's shorts and culottes are preferably paired with tops that are short or tucked inside so as not to compress the silhouette.
